Artist Statement
Life
as an artist compels
me to translate my
view of the world in an authentic and direct way through form and color.
This cherished gift of a
creative life is fueled by both
contemplation and hard work, combined with necessary doses of space
and time required to follow the artistic
flow.
Inspired by a love of nature, my distinctive vision for painting
combines the substantial physical presence of the northwest landscape
with exuberant rich lush color.
My love for art includes all types of mediums,
including jewelry design with wire and beads, but soft pastel is my
medium of choice
for painting. Actually, pastels chose me the moment I picked one up
and put color to paper. Holding
a piece of pure pigment in hand is like drawing and painting
simultaneously, and allows an expressive interpretation of my chosen
subject. I like layers of
gestural strokes and creating a sense of atmosphere where color is
intensified and landscape is described in a real and unsentimental way.
As a
complete departure from painting, the LOOZA Bottle Project is a
collaborative art installation, under my direction. The project
repurposes trash in an homage to product design. On completion,
the project is envisioned as an environmental installation with the
repeating forms of almost 300 bottles filled with the creative energy of
many many people.
